Design and layout Guide for small kitchens as in Apartment etc

September 3rd, 2009 · No Comments

The National Kitchen and Bath Association defines a 150sq foot area of space as a small kitchen. This area is a designing challenge in terms of spacious look and also functional storage solutions. To make sure that these specifics are met, a few simple tricks can do the needful.

Let us start with the tile layout. Laying them in a traditional fashion can diminish the look of the room instead try laying them out diagonally to give it a spacious look. Use small appliances that have good amount of space but at the same time do not occupy the little space that you have in the kitchen. Changing to bright lights with light colored walls and cabinetry is a good way of making the place look roomy and spacious.
Kitchen cabinetry is an essential part of the decor. Using light colored cabinetry with glass doors can give it a big look. Try adding small and specific patterned knobs, modern cabinet pulls and other hardware. If you like antiques try not to over power the whole decor with large brass door knobs or flashy handle pulls. Instead look for an appropriate size and material like delicate handblown glass, ceramic hardware, acrylic pulls and knobs are a good addition. Look for companies like the Amerock Company that offers Amber glass knobs and hardware, or even the Carol Beachs company that fashions different metals and jewels in the form of knobs and handles or hinges. Some of them are shaped like melon knob, apple knobs etc, flowers and yellow tomato knobs or dark leafy pulls to add that extra touch.
